Wisdom Tooth Extraction

If you avoid the removal of misaligned wisdom teeth, you may be at risk for infection, cysts and even tooth decay. At John B. Webster DDS, wisdom teeth removal surgery is an outpatient surgery that allows local or general anesthesia, and IV if necessary. Our surgeon will perform the extraction of the teeth, and you are eligible to have someone drive you home after he finishes the operation. John B. Webster DDS will prescribe an antibiotic to prevent an infection from forming in the socket where the tooth or teeth were. If you are following our dentist's detailed instructions, your socket should heal in seven to ten days.

Tooth Extractions Made Easy

Any tooth can be extracted for different reasons. Common reasons for tooth extraction consist of trauma or decay, crowded teeth, infection, compromised immune system, gum disease and problematic wisdom teeth. There are two different types of tooth extract that John B. Webster DDS performs known as a simple extraction and surgical extraction. We will perform a simple removal if the tooth is visible. In this case, we administer a local anesthetic, and then loosen and remove the tooth. The second type of extraction, surgical, John B. Webster DDS performs is for more complicated teeth such as a broken tooth or a tooth that is below the gum line. This type of extraction requires anesthesia as well and the dentist to make a small incision in your gum to reach the tooth in need of removal.
