Learn How to Prevent and Identify Periodontal Disease

Preventing Gum Disease

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a severe issue that can be reoccurring if you do not take care of your teeth. This type of disease is an infection of your gums. When plaque is not brushed away or removed, it hardens and becomes tartar. In this accumulating tartar, bacteria begin to grow and attack your gums.

Periodontal Maintenance and Treatment

At John B Webster DDS, periodontal maintenance involves the removal of plaque and tartar, scaling and tooth planning and polishing. If you appear to be at risk for periodontal or gum disease, our dentist will determine how frequently you may need periodontal maintenance. If you already have periodontitis, treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. Your dentist and dental hygienist will evaluate for periodontal disease and recommend the appropriate treatment.
